What is Polen?

Polen Transiciones Justas is an independent think tank and action-oriented organization that promotes sustainable energy systems as a pathway to transforming Colombia into a more equitable, and climate-resilient society. We work to accelerate a just energy transition toward a post-fossil future by generating evidence, strengthening capacities, and advancing technically sound and socially legitimate solutions to inform public decision-making.

To advance this mission, we combine research, communications, advocacy, and capacity-building through the following areas of work:

  • We generate rigorous evidence and verifiable data to strengthen public policy design and promote informed, transparent, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • We reduce information asymmetries by producing and sharing accessible, reliable, and easy-to-understand information, strengthening civil society’s meaningful participation in decision-making processes.
  • We build bridges between evidence and public action by providing technical, economic, legal, and environmental analysis to support the design and implementation of feasible and socially legitimate energy transition strategies.
  • We strengthen capacities and promote dialogue among communities, workers, civil society organizations, academia, and public institutions to build collaborative solutions and democratize the energy transition.

Our Vision

We envision a just and post-fossil future grounded in:

  • Solidarity: We collaborate on actions that place life at the center. We are attentive to the collective and differentiated realities of those affected by transitions.
  • Inclusion: We believe in the power of multicultural societies that collectively contribute to an equitable future.
  • Equity: We seek to eliminate structural inequalities and prevent them from being reproduced throughout transitions.
  • Democracy: We provide tools that enable equitable access and meaningful participation in decision-making.
  • Commitment to ending extractivism: We seek to build a resilient and decentralized economy that is less dependent on an export-oriented primary sector, and in which local added value is strengthened, sustained, and distributed equitably.

Our Mission

To advance just and inclusive transitions toward a sustainable energy system that benefits all Colombians, contributing to a more equitable and climate-resilient society where energy serves as a catalyst for transformation.
