This publication summarizes the main arguments explaining why Colombia can move toward a planned and progressive transition of the electricity sector beyond coal. The document presents an overview of coal-fired power plants in the country, their environmental and health impacts, their relationship with the reliability charge, and the challenges they face amid the growth of renewable energy. It also proposes steps and cross-cutting actions to progressively reduce coal-fired electricity generation, protect workers and communities, and guide a just, renewable, reliable, and affordable energy transition.
