María Elena holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey, and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering from Universidad de los Andes. Prior to joining POLEN Transiciones Justas, she served as a researcher in Colombia, Mexico, and Germany, contributing her expertise at institutions such as the Technological University of Bolivar, Tecnológico de Monterrey, and the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material and Resource Flows. During her research career, María Elena focused on projects related to the atmospheric effects of various energy sectors, including transportation and coal mining.
