This publication presents recommendations to strengthen the estimation of greenhouse gas emissions and the monitoring of atmospheric gases associated with the coal sector in Colombia. The document reviews the national and international regulatory framework, the coal production chain, the methodologies used in national and corporate inventories, and relevant international experiences. Based on this analysis, it identifies opportunities for improvement to generate more precise, transparent, and comparable information that can guide public policy decisions, fulfill climate commitments, and advance toward a just energy transition with a progressive reduction in coal dependence.
