This publication analyzes the need to strengthen Colombia’s Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification System for the mining-energy sector in relation to methane emissions from coal mining. The document identifies gaps in the measurement and reporting of these emissions, especially in active and abandoned mines, and highlights the importance of explicitly incorporating them into the MRVme. It also offers recommendations to define technical guidelines, improve reporting systems, promote mitigation measures, create a multisectoral working group, and advance toward methane management based on environmental justice criteria.
